Orbit

Astrology Orb of a planetOriental

a is the orbital distance of the minor body from the major body
m is the mass of the minor body
M is the mass of the major body ...

Orbit. The path described by a heavenly body in its revolution around a center of attraction. Since the attracting mass is also in motion, the orbit must necessarily be an ellipse.

Orbital Period: 686.98 days
Period of Rotation: 24.62 hours
Inclination of its orbit to the ecliptic: 1 degree 50 min.

Orbit- the moon takes 27.32 days to orbit the earth. Its orbit is an ellipse.
Atmosphere- there is no atmosphere on the moon. Its low gravity might have caused its atmosphere to escape.

Orbits
Uranus moves round the zodiac in 84 years, Neptune in 165 years and Pluto in 250 years.

Orbital Revolution.
(1)
Loosely applied to any- thing that describes a circle, or pursues an orbit, in contradistinction to one which rotates upon an axis.

In connection with Directions
(q.v.), ...

orbit The path a heavenly body follows as it travels around another stellar body.

Orbital configuration in which an inferior planet lies in the same direction as the Sun, as seen from Earth.
inferior planet
A planet that is closer to the Sun than the Earth is.

The orbit of Saturn takes it around the sun in 29.4 years, but its rotation period (day) is only 10.

The orbits of the planets around the Sun fall largely within a plane (Pluto is an exception), and from the Earth, this means that the paths of the other planets and the Sun seem to fall within a band of sky.

The orbits of the Planets are slightly elliptical, the degree of ellipticity being termed the 'orbits eccentricity' which vary between 0 (for a circle) and 1.

With an orbit of 84 years, the last time Uranus was in Aquarius was 1912 to 1920. Uranus is the planetary ruler of Aquarius, so it is a very special and important sign for Uranus to be in.

Mercury's Orbit & Phases A consideration of Mercury's astronomical cycles and how its phases play a part in astrological interepretation, by David McCann ...

Neptune's orbit is about 165 years, or about 14 years in a sign. Neptune connects us not only to our spiritual yearning, but also to the collective unconscious and to the community of souls that share our aspirations.

The Moon's orbit and the earth's orbit intersect and these two intersecting points are known as North Node ( Rahu ) and the South Node ( Ketu ). These orbits differ by 8 degrees. They are mathematical points which influence human behaviour.

The Moon's orbit around the Earth is not the same as the ecliptic. You could visualize them as two giant hula hoops, one inside the other, held at an angle. The Moon's orbit crosses the Ecliptic in two places- these are called the Moon's Nodes.

The Uranus orbit is 84 years and during our lifetime we will experience all types of Uranus transits not only to our natal planets but also through our own personal house placements. The results can be chaotic, exciting, disruptive and freeing.

The Moon's orbit is tilted about 5 degrees to the Earth's orbit, so for this reason the Moon's shadow generally misses the Earth and no Solar Eclipse is present.

Ecliptic The orbit of the Sun and all the planets around the Earth: the celestial circle that the Sun, as seen from the Earth, seems to follow within the span of a year.

Due to the slow orbital journey it is seen as a generational influence, as with most of the outer planets, its natal house position has a much greater meaning. Its influence is neither mild or subtle, it destroys the old and builds the new.

Because Pluto's orbit is so eccentric, it sometimes crosses the orbit of Neptune. For twenty years from 1979 Neptune was actually the most distant planet from the Sun - Pluto returned to the depths in 1999.

Celestial Poles The Earth's orbit around the Sun takes approx. 365.25 days, and a 'day' is, of course, defined as the Earth spinning once on its axis. The Earth's axis of rotation, tilted at 23.

The points at which the orbit of the Moon meets the Ecliptic. There is disagreement as to the importance and interpretation of these points, ...

Lunar nodes are points that mark the intersection of the Moon's orbit around the Earth with the ecliptic. The ecliptic is the illusory path of the Sun as it revolves around the Earth during a year.

It is into this zone of the sky (or celestial sphere) that astronomers project a perfect circle - the eliptic - formed by the earth's yearly orbit around the sun - or, for an observer on the earth, the sun's apparent orbit around our own planet.

Asteroids (also called minor planets): These are thousands of small bodies, located mainly between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Some Asteroids are outside of this orbit, e.g. Chiron is between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus.

Today, some read Ptolemy as dropping the concept of a fixed celestial sphere and adopting what is referred to as a tropical coordinate system instead: in other words, one fixed to the cycle of the Earth's seasonal cycle rather than its orbital cycle.

We further notice that these elements are all inside Earth's orbit: the Sun, Mercury, Venus and sometimes the Moon, which sometimes passes outside this circle (ellipse) of the orbit (when there is a Full Moon for instance).

The ruling planets of these signs also reflect this "adjustment" and alteration of view from their orbital tilt. Mercury has a 7 degree tilt and Pluto 17! ...

This protostar is drawing material from a surrounding disk of dust and gas that is roughly the size of Jupiter's orbit.

Orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, its own orbit is elliptical and eccentric. It takes approximately 50 years for Chiron to complete its orbit around the zodiac.

Moreover, Pluto has its fastest orbital motion while going through Libra and Scorpio, which also coincided with the period of Pluto penetrating Neptune's orbit. Uranus (the Awakener) was in Scorpio in 1975.

The position of Chiron's orbit, placed between Saturn and Uranus, is rather special. In spite of all attempts at classification, Chiron has, as it were, taken on the role of a planet.

As the actual planets continue in their orbits, their movements correspond with the unfoldment of specific types of processes for specific periods of time in the life of the individual concerned.

Earth and the other planets orbit the Sun in predictable cycles. Earth’s cycle is one year (by definition).

From the Sun's perspective (called Heliocentric), there are no Retrogrades, the planets continuously move in their orbits around the Sun. But from our perspective on the Earth, planets sometimes APPEAR to be going backwards.

Just as the Sun in his yearly orbit passes through the fixed stars that make up the constellations of the Zodiac, so too the Moon, in her monthly orbit passes through the fixed stars that make up the Mansions of the Moon.

Ecliptic (Plane): the plane of the Earth's orbit around the Sun, hence the apparent path of the Sun around the Earth. All of the planets' orbital planes are inclined less than 3.4° to the ecliptic plane (except Mercury's at 7° and Pluto's at 17°).

Chiron, who spends longer in some signs than others, due to an elliptical orbit, was discovered at a time when alternative healing, channeling, ESP and similar teachings were causing a sensation.

A third shaft is fitted to accommodate the high gear ratio needed to represent Saturn's orbit. Six different modules, diametral pitch (DP), were used to allow the gears to mesh correctly. I had to make a fly cutter for each of the modules.

When any of the superior planets (planets outside earth's orbit -Mars outward) appear to be in retrograde motion, it is because the faster moving Earth has caught up with, ...

Astronomers have discovered a fifth planet that as part of a cluster, is orbiting a star outside our Solar System. But what fascinates them the most is what they can't see.

The illustration represents the crossing of two orbits. The past is in one direction, the future is in another. At the point where they meet, information about other possible lives becomes accessible.

Nodes: The position at which the orbits of the moon or other planets cross the ecliptic. Planetary nodes do not move much more than a degree in a one hundred years. The moon's nodes are usually the most common ones followed by astrologers.

The north node of the Moon is the point where the orbit of the Moon around the Earth crosses the orbit of the Earth around the Sun.

Pluto is normally the outermost planet known to man, but once every 500 years Neptune intercepts the elliptical orbit of this mysterious planet, which has a moon called Charon orbiting it.

Balsamic Phase: When a more quickly orbiting planet trails a planet with a slower orbit and appears to "catch up" with the slower body, and the planets are within 45 degrees of one another in their orbital cycles, ...

The North and South Nodes are those two opposing points where the Earth's orbit around the Sun is crossed by the Moon's orbit around the Earth. The South Node of the Moon shows old patterns of behavior and response.

Our most revered sages imagined about the planetary orbits by doing penance and Yoga for a long time. They also observed the motion of these heavenly bodies through a distinct and well-marked path in the sky which contains twelve zodiac signs.

Mean distance from the Sun(AU) 19.218

Equatorial radius(km) 25559
Polar radius(km) 24973
Body rotation period(hours) 17.24
Tilt of equator to orbit(degrees) 97.92

superior planets : Planets whose orbits are larger than Earth's. The term is sometimes restricted to the three outermost planets: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
swift in motion : Said of a planet whose rate of travel is greater than its mean daily motion.

ECLIPTIC : Marks the point where Earths orbital plane intersects celestial sphere.
ELEMENT : Represent characteristics that are associated with certain zodiac signs.
EQUINOX : Point at which the ecliptic crosses the Earths equator.

5-degree tilt of its poles relative to the plane of its orbit around the Sun (the plane called the Ecliptic). Think of a spinning top which is not quite vertical, and moving around on a turntable.

(I.e. if the Earth was a perfect sphere, there would be no precession!)  The result is a slow rotation of the axis of the Earthšs rotation with respect to the Earthšs orbit around the Sun (an approximately 25,920 year cycle).

Synodic period-A sidereal lunar month is the period of 27.3 days the time it takes the Moon to orbit once around the Earth. A synodic month is 29.5 days the time it takes for the Moon to cycle through its phases (new to new or full to full).

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and -Pluto. Between the two groups lies the main asteroid zone consisting of about 45,000 small 'worlds' moving round Sun whose orbits lie in between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

Chiron: A minor Planet discovered in 1977, Chiron is located between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus. It appears to be associated with expanding consciousness and powers of healing.

The sidereal year is the time required for the earth to complete an orbit of the sun relative to the stars (365 days, 6 hr, 9 min, 9.5 sec of mean solar time).
