Orbs of the Aspects This is a contentious issue amongst astrological students, different astrologers adopting different Orbs of influence for the Aspects. Let's, first of all, spell out what is intended with an Orb of influence.

If neither the Sun or Moon is involved, a conjunction is a separation (orb) of about 0±08° (though different astrologers use different orbs).
Prior to modern astrology defining orbs to aspects (generally accredited to Alan Leo), orbs of influence were assigned to planets. These were called the moiety of planets. Moiety means half.
Interestingly, I have found that we tend to identify more with aspects with wider orbs.
In my own work, I have found that an orb of 1 degree (one finger's width) is usually quite noticeable, though I'd allow up to 6 degrees for Algol and various sizeable orbs for the other major stars.

Of course, the angles are not always completely exact. Therefore astrologers work with a tolerable imprecision, the so-called orb. The orbs used by astrologers are a matter of their individual taste. Some accept an orb of up to 10°.
