Orbs. The question of orbs for these aspects arises, part of an enduring subject of debate about all aspects among all astrologers, which opens another structural problem, but one which is actually easily solved.

Orbs of the Aspects
This is a contentious issue amongst astrological students, different astrologers adopting different Orbs of influence for the Aspects. Let's, first of all, spell out what is intended with an Orb of influence.

Orbs in the Horoscope
Two planets will very rarely form an exact aspect. So, an "Orb" is allowed either side of the aspect. Within, wgich an "Aspect" may be said to occur.
The orbs used should be relative to the speed of planets involved. Transits of the heavy, slower-moving, outer planets (Jupiter to Pluto) will have an allowance greater than that of the faster-moving inner planets (Sun through to Mars).
The matter of Orbs is one that has never been settled. The figures given are merely an average of opinion:

In terms of the orbs (number of degrees allowed beyond the point of exactitude) of these aspects, we can use the exoteric orbs as a starting point in determining if certain aspects are in force.
The subjects of orbs and applying, separating, and dissociate aspects are beyond the scope of this article but are very important to understand. Start, however with gaining an understanding of the major aspects.

If neither the Sun or Moon is involved, a conjunction is a separation (orb) of about 0±08° (though different astrologers use different orbs).
Prior to modern astrology defining orbs to aspects (generally accredited to Alan Leo), orbs of influence were assigned to planets. These were called the moiety of planets. Moiety means half.
Interestingly, I have found that we tend to identify more with aspects with wider orbs.
In my own work, I have found that an orb of 1 degree (one finger's width) is usually quite noticeable, though I'd allow up to 6 degrees for Algol and various sizeable orbs for the other major stars.
Orbs vary from one aspect to another, from 9 degrees for strong aspects like a conjunction to just a few degrees for weaker aspects. Outer Planets : The planets farthest out in the solar system.
" Some astrologers prefer to use tight or narrow orbs (e.g., within 2-5 degrees) and others prefer to use wide orbs (e.g., within 6-9 degrees).
Application occurs when the orbs of the planets come into contact through conjunction or aspect by half of their orbs (moiety). So, unless the moieties of the planets touch whilst moving towards an aspect, there is no application.
Orbs are highest for the Sun and Moon, smaller for the inner planets, and smallest for the outer planets. Orbs decrease as the aspect's harmonic number increases. Most astrologers agree the highest degree to still be effective is 8°.

Of course, the angles are not always completely exact. Therefore astrologers work with a tolerable imprecision, the so-called orb. The orbs used by astrologers are a matter of their individual taste. Some accept an orb of up to 10°.
