Perigee: The point of orbit at which a planet is closest to Earth.
Perigee
- from the Greek peri 'near to' + gaia 'earth', the point in a planet's orbit when it is nearest to Earth.

Perihelion - The point in a planet's orbit where it is closest to the sun and moving as fast as it can. This often intensifies the planet's effects on us.
Perigee/Apogee. These are the points when the Moon, due to its non-circular orbit, is closest and furthest (respectively) to the Earth.

The nearer its rate of travel is to 15º17' per day, as at perigee when nearest to the Earth, the quicker will its influence be manifest. Also it should be increasing in light; i.e.

3) The Moon must be at or near perigee: The Moon's orbit is eccentric-an ellipse-as Kepler demonstrated to be true for the orbits of all orbiting bodies.
This point arises due to the Moon's path around the ecliptic forming an axis of the perigee when the moon's orbit is closest to the earth and the apogee when its orbit is furthest from the earth. It is an empty area, a void created, an empty focus.
This brought Mars and Earth to their closest rendezvous (called perigee), which happens every 2 years or so. However, the particular alignments of Mars' and Earth's orbits in 2003 made this perigee a remarkably close one! ...
