Fire signs are enthusiastic, energetic and outgoing. They are often spontaneous and function best on an intuitive level.

Positive signs are naturally more impulsive, buoyant, communicative and sociable that the Negative signs. They crave excitement and are therefore inclined to direct their energies outwards into the world around them.

Sometimes called masculine or positive signs, the active signs comprise those of the fire and air triplicities. You are self-expressive, spontaneous and get your best results when extrovert and outgoing.

The Sun is also the most elevated planet, both appearing to be positive signs. Yet Mars also rules the 8th house, bringing the singer close to death, and there is a very close application from Mercury, ruler of the 6th.

To distinguish between these dual rulerships, the positive signs were called Day Houses, and the negative signs, the Night Houses -- although since they are signs not houses, the terms Day Home and Night Home would be preferable.

Each sign has a "Polarity" which can be positive or negative. Positive signs tend to be more active. Inward signs are passive in their energy. A chart with a marked imbalance of one polarity over another may show extroversion or introversion.

Masculine Signs Air and Fire Signs. Those signs, regardless of gender that suggest aggressiveness, directness In antiquated Astrology texts they are referred to as the Positive Signs or Active Signs.

They are also embodied in the deck of cards: clubs for fire, diamonds for earth, hearts for water, and spades for air; the black suits representing the positive signs and the red suits the negative signs.
