Although these segments have been given the same names as the fixed star constellations, the earth's precession means that they are no longer in line with the constellations of the same name.

Science / Astrology / Precession
Precession: The circular motion of Earth's axis around the pole of the ecliptic, caused by the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon on the bulging part of the equator.

The precession of the equinoxes
actually begins here.
*Since the Earth is not a perfect sphere (see glossary, "oblateness"), the Sun and Moon pull on it unevenly.

Precession of the Equinoxes
This term refers to way the equinoxes move backwards very slowly through the zodiac, due to a wobble in the Earth's rotation.

Precessions The slow advancement of the fixed-star heavens through the movement of the Earth's axis. Therefore, the constellations, which gave the signs of the zodiac their names, move another 1° every 72 years.

Precession - Due to the pole of the equator revolving around the pole of the ecliptic, the equinoctial point moves backward with relation to the constellations at the rate of approximately 50" per year.

Precession of Equinoxes: a 25,868 year cycle of motion in the Earth's axis of rotation, caused by gravitational pulls from Sun and Moon, ...

Precession of the Equinoxes: Refers to the slow movement of the Vernal Equinox in a backward motion in relation to the constellations which make up the sidereal zodiac.

Precession. Refers to precession of the equinoxes, the retrograde movement of the Vernal Point (which marks the beginning of the year) through the constellations, possibly connected with the mutation of the Earth on its poles.

Precession of Equinox and Pole. The shape of the Earth is that of an ellipsoid: flattened at the poles and bulging at the Equator.

precession of the equinoxes The gradual westward shift (about 50" each year) of the equinoctial points along the ecliptic due to the ecliptic due to the rotational movement of the poles of Earth's axis.

[edit] Precession of the equinoxes
Main article: Precession of the equinoxes ...

Precession of the equinox is caused by the fact that the axis of the earth's rotation (which causes day and night) and the axis of the earth's revolution around the sun (which marks the passage of each year) are not parallel.

The precession of the Earth's axis causes the polestar to change every few thousand years.

The precessional movement is retrograde, meaning that itıs apparent relative movement is opposite that of the movement of the planets around the sun.  All the known planets go in the same direction.

The Precession of the Equinoctial Point amounts to 360 degrees in about 24,800 years. The Earth's rotation appears to be slowing down at a rate which if continued will amount to 1 second in about 120,000 years.

Each precessional age of some 2,150 years each has 12 sub-ages of approximately 179 years each. Each sub-age has 12 micro-ages of around 15 years each.

Even if precession was of little consequence to Roman astrologers, it had been instrumental in the discovery of the astrological zodiac.

Because the precession of the equinoxes now places the traditional Via Combusta some ten degrees earlier, this stricture is often ignored.

If you are using a PRECESSED chart, this is calculated using the sidereal zodiac and the degree of your Return Sun will be slightly different than your natal Sun.

As the Earth itself precesses (changes the direction it tilts) so that its North Pole points to a different Pole Star), the Tropical system automatically takes this into account by continually adjusting the Sign boundaries as the Earth, ...

This changes over extremely long periods of time due to the precession of the equinoxes, but the current Pole Star (in the northern hemisphere) is Polaris, the North Star, a Behenian Star in the 29th degree of Gemini.

In addition, due to the 26,000 year precession cycle of Earth on its axis of rotation, ...

The precessional sign Aquarius will initiate the most amazing period in history.
Energies emanating from Aquarius will stimulate the astral body of humanity to the new coherency of a brotherhood that will ignore racial and national differences.

The latter represents the end of a 25,920 year cycle -- a cycle based on the Precession of the Equinoxes.

They fixed the calendar (both lunar and solar), described the zodiac and asterisms in great detail, calculated precisely the precession of the equinoxes, established the general laws of the stellar movements and observed and predicted the eclipses.

It was designed using star coordinates precessed to 2010. 2010 was chosen as the design base as it is halfway between leap years and is something of an average for relating celestial positions to civil time. Stars are represented in four sizes.

This slight movement is known as the precession of Equinoxes. The zodiac, which reckons the first degree of Aries from the equinoctial point, which has a precession every year, is the movable zodiac or Sayana adopted by the western astrologers.

The grand-papa of all of our cycles is the Precession of the Equinoxes.

Of these, the last movement known as the precession of the equinoxes is responsible for the development of the concept of a sidereal or fixed zodiac that was widely used for horoscopic calculations in Indian astrology.

Because of the slow movement of the heavens and precessions, the Maya, like many other ancient skywatchers, (4) relied on it for predictability and cyclic prediction.

This phenomenon is known as the "Precession" and creates the period of 25,920 years that we call the "Great Year." The "Great Year" is divided into twelve "Great Ages" each of approximately 2160 years.

Nutation - It is that part of the precessional motion of the pole of Earth's equator which depends upon the periodic motion of Sun and Moon in their orbit round Earth.

These ages are based on the precession of the equinoxes that shifts the alignment of the Earth to the ecliptic plane. And there's great interest in this current age as a time of the old world dying, and a new one being born.

The Sidereal zodiac takes into account the precession of the equinoxes and is the zodiac used by astronomers. The Tropical is based on the traditional positions of the demarcations of the zodiac and is primarily used by astrologers.

The two zodiacs are constantly drifting farther apart due to what is called the precession of the equinoxes (they are currently about 24 degrees apart).

At the same time the Hindus named their star constellations after the 12 Signs, evidence from several ancient texts shows they lost knowledge of the precession of the equinox.

As precession gradually moved the Vernal Equinox away from the Bull and nearer to these stars, a more dignified figure was needed to lead the celestial host.

All its calculations are constantly adjusted for a back slipping motion of the earth called precession. The earth's axial spin retards or moves back about one degree or one day every 72 years, in relationship to a fixed star.

Furthermore, he did not take into account the precession of the equinoxes.
