Prime Vertical: The great circle that rises vertically from the east point of the horizon and passes through Earth's zenith and nadir.

 


Prime vertical - The vertical East-West great circle, whose plane is perpendicular to the plane of the meridian, and which passes through the East Point, Zenith, West Point, and Nadir of a particular location.

Prime Vertical. The vertical circle that lies at right angles to the meridian, and passes through the East point, Zenith, West point and Nadir of any place.

Prime Vertical: the "vertical circle" passing through the center of the Earth and perpendicular to the horizon (the definition of a vertical circle) that also passes through the east and west points on the horizon.

The prime vertical (the great circle taking in the zenith and east point on the horizon) is divided into twelve, and these divisions are projected on to the ecliptic along great circles that take in the north and south points on the horizon.

Campanus A system of houses based on equal twelvefold division of the prime vertical, as opposed to the ecliptic.

Antivertex: Intersection of the Prime Vertical with the ecliptic in the east.
Apogee (apo - away Gaia - Earth): The point in the Moon's orbit that is most distant from the Earth also used when a planet is most distant from the earth.

The Meridian is also perpendicular to the Prime Vertical, the vertical circle passing through the east and west points on the horizon.

All places in latitudes north and south of the equator, have a prime vertical that cuts the equator at an angle equal to the latitude of the place; and the horizon cuts the equator at an angle equal to the complement of the latitude.

Earlier writers (including Charles Jayne) have suggested ad hoc use of the Prime Vertical or Meridian in cases where the Moon tenants a degree that cannot rise or set.

An ancient house system based on the division of the Prime Vertical into diurnal and nocturnal arcs which are then divided into three equal parts by two declination circles.

The Vertex, called a point of fateful encounters over which we have no conscious control, is the intersection of the great circles of the ecliptic and the prime vertical in the west at the time and place of birth.

East points : The point on the Celestial Equator rising on the Eastern Horizon at birth. The East Point is the intersection of the Eastern Horizon, Prime Vertical, and Celestial Equator.

Campanus: Thirteenth century astrologer and mathematician who devised the house system that bears his name, which divides the prime vertical into equal 30° arcs.
