Retrograde Motion: The apparent backward motion of a planet when it appears, as observed from Earth, to reverse its natural direction of travel and move backward in the zodiac.

 


Retrograde Motion
(from Latin for backward step) is a term you'll hear a lot in astrology. This is an optical illusion where a planet appears to move through the zodiac opposite its usual direction.

When Mars turns to retrograde motion, the overall atmosphere changes, people have lower physical energy, they get tired and feel stressed more easily and they need more time to relax and recover.

Retrograde Motion
A planet moves backwards through the Zodiac in its Geocentric position - as seen from the earth. For the personal planets, Mercury, Venus and Mars, this happens rarely in terms of total duration.

Retrograde motion - The apparent backward motion of a planet when it appears, as observed from Earth, to reverse its natural direction of travel and move backward in the zodiac.

Retrograde Motion: This is an apparent movement backward in the zodiac, although in reality, this retrograde motion is an illusion created by the changing placements of the earth and the planets in correlation to each other.

Retrograde motion of planets: the apparent temporary backward movement of the planets (not Sun or Moon) through the zodiac, caused by our being on a moving observation platform; the planet itself does not truly change direction.

If we look at our solar system "from above", all of the planets revolve around the sun in the same direction (anti-clockwise).

Retrograde motions are about patience. They are times when our plans to go forward are halted. Retrograde periods are times to bring play and family into the forefront of our lives. During retrograde periods we are reworking plans.

Retrograde motion is when a planet appears to be moving backward. In actuality, the planet's speed slows down giving the illusion that it is travelling backward.

RETROGRADE MOTION:
Refers to a planet that appears to be moving backwards as seen from the Earth.

The retrograde motion preventing the perfection of the aspect, just gives a warning of death until the possible perfection of the conjunction.

Mercury moves into retrograde motion three times a year for about three weeks each time. This phase heralds a time of confusion and misunderstandings that can affect arrangements, travel, transport, appliances, machinery and communications.

The first is the primary or strongest effect, which takes place during the approximately three week period of Mercury's actual retrograde motion.

Some authorities have used the term 'approach' as synonymous with 'apply'. The faster-moving body is said to be applying to an aspect of the slower-moving one.

The fact that the degree is smaller alerts us to look at the top of the column to find the R representing retrograde motion. Venus is retrograde once every 18 months or so for approx. 40 days.

Of course, this is not for real, but it just appears so because because of our movement around the Sun. This is called "Retrograde Motion". Retrograde planets operate in a cautious way.
