The day for a year method is otherwise known as Secondary Progressions. This method is the commonest and most logical to use. It takes the day of birth as signifying the first year of life, the next day as the second year of life and so on.
Progressed horoscope: (secondary progressions) While viewing the date of birth for an individual in an ephemeris, one would count forward the number of days equal to the persons age at the time the reading is desired.

Solar Arc Directions are used in Cosmobiology and Uranian Astrology and are considered to be predictive on a physical level, while Secondary Progressions are thought to operate on more of an emotional or feeling level.

Personally, I was quite surprised to find out that Kepler added the quintile and decile as aspects and also devised secondary progressions.
