Sinister Aspect - An aspect read from the left (ie applying to the exact point of aspect).
Sinister - An aspect ray cast foreward in the order of the signs (to the left).

sinister aspect : Sinister (Latin); term replaced with departing aspect, which refers to aspects in which the direction from significator to promittor is backward in the zodiac, clockwise in a horoscope. See also departing aspect.

Sinister AspectAn aspect read from the left by diurnal movement, i.e. clockwise. It is thus in accordance with the natural succession of the Signs. Considered less powerful because hidden, or not in the line of sight. See Dexter.

Since the dexter aspect is forming as the result of increasing distance it would show a displacement toward the red end, which would tend to introduce into the aspect a measure of Mars energy; while the sinister aspect, ...

A sinister aspect, because it is issued against the natural movement of heaven and has to 'look backwards', is weaker, distorted, inverted or somewhat debilitated.

Usually said of the Moon as it approaches the Sun in the order of the signs on its way to a conjunction (New Moon) after leaving its opposition (Full Moon). When decreasing in light, the Moon forms a series of sinister aspects to the Sun.
