South Node
The South Node is also known as the Dragon's Tail. This is considered unfortunate or hindering. It is also considered to be the karma from which one has derived.

 


The South Node represents habit patterns from childhood or from past lives. These are comfortable patterns, but they often get in the way of you having the kinds of connections you want with other people.

North and South Nodes
- The north and south nodes indicate the points in the zodiac where the plane of the moon's orbit intersects the plane of the ecliptic (the Earth's orbit). These are sensitive areas where eclipses occur.

South Node
One of the two Lunar Nodes, which mark the intersection of the Sun's and Moon's path through the sky (from Earth's perspective). The South Node is the point where the Moon starts to travel "south" of the Sun's path.

The South Node in the chart tells the story of our evolutionary past - it shows where we are most comfortable, but where those comfortable reactions have held us back. In Obama's chart the South Node is in Aquarius and in the first house.

The South Node is associated with a drawing out force, asking something of us; a time to give back. Its effect and the way it sensitizes a planet is more intangible and timeless, urging continuity and requiring selfless and compassionate actions.

The Moon’s south node is directly opposite the north node in your birthchart and so is often not marked. The nodal axis illustrates your spiritual journey, with the south node representing activities and behaviours that come most naturally.

Now add the North/South Node connotation. Is the New or Full Moon taking us toward our goal (North Node) or away from it (South Node)? Which light is helping or hindering the process? There are four possible scenarios.

The only difference in the symbol is that the horseshoe is open on the bottom for the north node and open on the top for the south node. The lunar nodes, north and south, are not planets.

There is a North Node and a South Node which are always in opposition to each other. Traditionally, the north node is viewd to have an influence similar to that of Jupiter and the south node has an inlfuence similar to that of Saturn.
