The Spectral types of stars All objects in the universe radiate energy in the form of fluctuating electric and magnetic fields. One characteristic of this electromagnetic (EM) radiation is its wavelength.
Arcturus is the 6th brightest star in the sky and is 35 light years from Earth. Its diameter is 35 times that of the sun and an intrinsic luminosity 80 times that of the sun, Visual Magnitude 0.2, Spectral type K, distance in light years 35-36.
