The spring equinox, March 21, is the beginning of the new zodiacal year and Aries, the first sign, is therefore that of new beginnings. The young ram is adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic and full of energy.

The Babylonian Spring Equinox began with the Sun in Taurus. As such, the moon stations were adopted into India later, perhaps everywhere, from the Mesopotamian literature we find in the Mul Apin. The Mul.

Aries and Libra mark the Spring Equinox and Autumn Equinox, according to Hemisphere. Cancer and Capricorn mark instead the Solstices of Winter and Summer, of course depending also on the Hemisphere.

Over a period of about 72 years, the spring equinox degree moves one degree backward through the zodiac.

The ingress of the Sun into Aries marks the Spring Equinox where the daylight hours equal the nighttime hours. Libra marks the fall or Autumnal Equinox when the daylight hours = the nighttime hours.

The ancient British fertility goddess Oestre, from whose name we get our word Easter, had a pet hare that laid its egg every Spring Equinox so that life would spread throughout the world.

At both Vernal and Spring Equinox, the SUN is at 0 Declination, at Winter Solstice, the Sun is at 23 degrees 26 minutes North, or conjunct the Tropic of Cancer.

The zero degrees reference point is the Spring Equinox on or about March 21st. Starting here the 360 degrees of the ecliptic are divided in twelve sectors of 30 degrees each. These sectors are the signs of the zodiac.

Tropical Astrology assigns the Signs, based on their position in relation to the Spring Equinox, which marks the Astrological New Year and usually falls on March 21. The Equinox represents 0 degrees Aries.

International Astrology Day is celebrated/observed depending on the exact day that the Equinox actually occurs (Spring equinox in the Northern hemisphere, Fall equinox in the Southern hemisphere).

Pisces -- a time of healing, a time to re-generate the immune system after the long winter, a time to plant creative seeds for the spring equinox.

The Cretan Bull and triple Geryon must each represent a complete calendar in which the year began at the spring equinox. And one of these calendars is that of Sardis, in which the Cretan Bull symbolizes Taurus.

Vernal Equinox. The Spring equinox, literally the equal night of Spring, when the Sun reaches the point where the plane of the ecliptic intersects the plane of the Earth's equator; when the Sun enters 0 degrees Aries in Spring.

The signs begin with Aries (the point of the Spring Equinox) passing through the summer solstice point of 0 degrees Cancer, then on to the Autumn Equinox at 0 degrees Libra to the Winter Solstice at 0 degrees Capricorn, and end with Pisces.

On the spring equinox, the beginning of the sign Aries in the tropical zodiac, the siderealist will see the Sun rising with the 6th degree of constellation Pisces behind it.

This represents offensive power and begins at the spring equinox. In Aries we move from the potential to the actual; from dormant to active participation. Desire, initiative, courage and action are words which best describe Aries.

The western astrological year begins around March 21 with the spring equinox. This is when the Sun enters Aries. All of the sign positions are based on this western concept.
