Vespertine. Said of a planet which sets in the West after the Sun. The reverse of Matutine (q.v.).

 


Vespertine - A planet setting in the evening after sunset.
Vernal Equinox - Spring Equinox (northern hemisphere).

Evidently oriental was intended to apply to the major planets and the Moon; while matutine and vespertine, which meant the same thing, were intended to apply to the inferior planets; but Ptolemy lost himself in his own words, ...

" This division of the heavens along with Maututine and Vespertine (25) potential includes variables that confound the opponents understanding.

68. A malevolent planet when he is matutine,[31] signifies a fall[32] ; when vespertine,[33] a disease.

The Moon, Mercury, and Venus are accidentally dignified when occidental. The western half of a chart between the M.C. and 4th cusp is called the occidental side of the chart. A planet setting in the west after the sun is also called "vespertine.
