Western Astrology
Western astrology is the system of astrology most popular in Europe and the United States.

What this means is that, although the book's subject is the history of western astrology, that account entails an informed analysis of this culture's attempts to characterise and understand the world in which we find ourselves.

Western Astrology's perspective on the Lunar Nodes
It is well known in Western Astrology that the North Node of the Moon represents a spiritual target, soul's mission to accomplish in this life. It is the direction of evolution.

Western astrology differs in its perspective to that of the Hindu Zodiac. Our western system is seasonal and Sun based.

Western astrology, the offspring of Babylonian astrology, has a lot of similarities to Vedic astrology but there are technical differences in how the chart is constructed and some major differences in interpretative techniques.

In Western astrology transits of planets are judged vis-a-vis the radical longitudes of the planets and the ascending degree; but in Hindu astrology the popular and the most widely practiced method is to judge the transits from the natal Moon.

In Western Astrology, the Dragon's Head, a "shadow planet" exalted in Gemini, is considered generally benefic (good), whilst the Dragon's Tail, exalted in Sagittarius, is considered malefic (evil) in influence.

In Western astrology, the planetary positions presented in their Zodiac do not represent today's astronomical positions. They tend to focus more on the seasons as markers of time.

I recently took a History of Western Astrology class for which I had to write an essay each week and a final research paper. I'm sharing them below in the hopes the material cited and my ramblings are as enlightening to you as the class was to me.
