The third brightest star in the constellation Cygnus and widely regarded as one of the most attractive double stars in the sky.
Albireo (β Cyg / β Cygni / Beta Cygni) is the third brightest star in the constellation Cygnus. Although it has the Bayer designation "beta", it is actually fainter than Gamma Cygni.

The brighter star Albireo A is a K3II bright giant. This type of star is cooler than the sun, with an effective temperature of approximately 4100 K. It is probably about 20 times larger in radius than the sun and 100 times as luminous.
Albireo, the bright star at the head of the Cygnus, is an excellent example of a telescopic double star. Even with binoculars, you can see that it consists of two stars of different colours, one is very orange the other bluish white.

When watching stars in Cygnus the binary beta Cyg, called Albireo (arab.: the bill), is a must. It is one of the most beautiful colored binaries, a real showpiece in the sky.
It can be found: northeast of Delta and Gamma Sagittae, and southeast of Albireo (Beta1 Cygni); east of the Dumbbell Nebula; southwest of the Veil or Witch's Broom, Lace-work, Cirrus, Network, and Filamentary nebulae, ...
The beak of the swan is marked by a star named Albireo, revealed by small telescopes to be a beautiful coloured double star of green and amber, like a celestial traffic light.

The star at the bottom of the cross is called Albireo. Approximately midway along an imaginary line between Sadr and Albireo lies the star Eta Cygni. Cygnus X-1 is located slightly less than 0.5° from this star.
Beta Cygni is called Albireo, which is really a mistake. The words written in a sixteen-century edition of Ptolemy's Almagest, had been "ab ireo" (the meaning of which rests a mystery). The Arabs called it "Al Minhar al Dajajah", the Hen's Beak.
Extending the Deneb-Albireo line in either direction sends you soaring along the galactic equator -- a starlit boulevard abounding with celestial delights.
[3071] beta Cygni or Albireo marks the head of the swan. It is a binary star with blue and yellow components. It is only the fifth brightest star in the constellation.

This globular cluster in Lyra was discovered by Messier on January 23, 1779. Located about 31,000 ly away, it measures 60 ly across. It can be found almost halfway between Albireo (b Cygni) and g Lyrae (see finder chart below).
10. And finally, don't forget to celebrate the excitement of your students' astronomy experiences. You and I may not find great satisfaction in identifying Arcturus or separating Albireo in a telescope, but your students will.
It is also known as the Northern Cross. It is seen along the Milky Way in the northern hemisphere. At its tail is the very bright star Deneb, (alpha Cygni) and at its head is the double star Albireo, (beta Cygni).
A perfect example is the Milky Way area between Deneb and Albireo in Cygnus where several dozen stars are visible within a small telescopic field of view.
