RASALGETHI (Alpha Herculis). Just to the west of the bright star Vega lies the constellation Hercules, which commemorates the great and strong mythological Greek hero.

Alpha Herculis, a red giant star that varies from third to fourth magnitude, is called Rasalgethi, from the Arabic meaning ‘the kneeler's head'.

DoDz7 - Very easy to locate, but very easy to dismiss as just background stars. Just 2 degrees north-west of Alpha Herculis. Quite faint, only a few stars visible, about a quarter-degree in size. The poorest of the Hercules clusters.

This is a rather close star, at 54 light years away, and a celestial neighbour of Ras Algethi (alpha Herculis), which lies to the WNW five degrees. Ophiuchus has a half-dozen or so visual doubles, and even more star clusters.
