The brightest star in the constellation is [5133] alpha Lupi, a blue giant classified as a Beta Cephei variable. It belongs to the Scorpius-Centaurus Association, the nearest stellar association to our solar system.
The star can be found: near Nu1 and Kappa1 Lupi; north of Zeta Lupi; southwest of Epsilon, Gamma, and Delta Lupi; south of Beta Lupi; and east of Kakkab (Alpha Lupi).
