Alpha Phoenicis (α Phe / α Phoenicis) is the brightest star in the constellation Phoenix. It has the traditional name Ankaa, from the Arabic ا"عنقاء al-'anqā' "the phoenix".

Phoenix only has two stars brighter than magnitude 5.0. [6612] alpha Phoenicis or Ankaa ("the phoenix") is an orange giant about 80 light-years distant. It is also known as Nair al-Zaurak ("the bright star of the skiff").

The nearest star to this galaxy is alpha Phoenicis, which lies three and a half degrees southeast.
