Amor Asteroid
The Amor asteroids are a class of with -crossing orbits. Eros is one of the larger Amors, and NASA's Near-Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) mission, launched Feb. 17, 1996, is scheduled to visit it in Jan. or Feb. 1999.

AMOR ASTEROIDS - Group of near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) named after asteroid 1221 Amor. These objects approach the orbit of the Earth, but do not cross it; most do cross Mar's orbit. The two moons of Mars may be captured Amor asteroids.

Amor asteroids vary widely in composition, which indicates they have come from different parts of the main asteroid belt and have been perturbed into their present orbits by either Jupiter or Mars.

AMOR ASTEROID
Amors are which orbit between the orbits of Earth and Mars. They were named for the asteroid Amor, #1221. Eros (#433) is an Amor asteroid.

By mid-1991 the number of known Aten, Apollo, and Amor asteroids were 11, 91, and 81, respectively.

Amor asteroids therefore do not at present cross Earth’s orbit. Because of strong gravitational perturbations produced by their close approaches to Earth, however, ...

By the late 1980s, about 75 asteroids, the Amor asteroids, were known to intersect the orbit of Mars, about 50 Apollo asteroids to intersect the orbit of the earth, and less than 10 Aten asteroids to have orbits smaller than the earth's orbit.

Of those there are 330 Aten asteroids, 1,613 Amor asteroids, and 2,181 Apollo asteroids. There are 792 NEO's which are classified as potentially hazardous asteroids.
