Aquarius, or the "Water Bearer," is a constellation in the southern hemisphere. It is one of the 12 constellations of the Zodiac family, which lie on the Sun's apparent path in the sky.

Aquarius, the waterbearer:
One of the twelve ancient constellations that make up the zodiac, Aquarius is located in a part of the sky known as "the Water" that is full of water-related constellations.

Aquarius is one of the oldest recognized constellations along the zodiac, the sun's apparent path. It is found in a region often called the Sea due to its profusion of watery constellations such as Cetus, Pisces, Eridanus, etc.

Aquarius is a rather faint constellation which would not be famous if it weren't part of the Zodiac. Aquarius, as its name suggests is universally associated with water. In most cultures, it is drawn as a man pouring water from a bucket.

Another interesting object to be found in Aquarius is M73. This object is unlike most of Messier's other discoveries. M73 is a small cluster of four stars. It is officially classified as an asterism.

Around the year 1 it moved into the constellation of Pisces (pronounced "pie-sees" in the US) and currently it is again in transition, to the constellation of Aquarius, the water carrier.

On and near May 24, Mars passes near the three Psi stars of Aquarius, which can be located on this Aquarius sky chart.

The celestial equatorial plane and the ecliptic currently intersect in Pisces, not far from the border with Aquarius, and in Virgo, not far from the border with Leo.

It's actually in Pisces and getting closer to Aquarius - which, by the way, is sort of the basis for that song "Age of Aquarius," but you might be too young to remember that golden oldie.

The planet starts April in Aquarius, by the 18th its easterly motion will see it in Pisces. A few mornings later Venus will pass close to Uranus. The two planets will be about a degree apart on the mornings of the 23rd and 24th of April.

By the year 2,600 the vernal equinox will have moved into Aquarius. This process is called the precession of the equinoxes. (It does make hash out of astrology, which is very rigid about the zodiac. Astrology is not a science.

at the rate of about 50 arcseconds a year. The Vernal Equinox is also called the First Point of Aries but due to the effects of precession the Vernal Equinox is now in the constellation of Pisces and moving towards Aquarius.

6 and Dec. -20 deg. 48 min., that it is in the constellation Aquarius, has a magnitude of 6.5, and is roughly 450 light years away. Now this is fun and informational for the observer - expecially a beginner! ...
