[1538] beta Canis Minoris, traditionally known as Gomeisa ("the bleary-eyed"), is a hot B8-class star with a magnitude of 2.8, surrounded by a disk of material. It is easy to spot even with the naked eye.
GOMEISA (Beta Canis Minoris). Carrying seemingly one of the odder star names, Gomeisa (hard "G", the "ei" said as long "a" or short "i") comes from an Arabic term that means "the little bleary-eyed one.
Canis Minor is a small constellation mainly consisting of the two stars, Procyon (α CMi / Alpha Canis Minoris, 0.38m) and Gomeisa (β CMi / Beta Canis Minoris), 2.9m). Procyon is the eighth brightest star in the night sky.
