I highly recommend the "desk edition" of Sky Atlas 2000, which shows black stars on white paper. The "field edition" shows white stars on black paper and is actually much more difficult so use in the dark with a red flashlight.
The star charts show the entire sky with a white sky background and black stars and include a calendar of astronomical events for the month. Sky and Telescope's Interactive Sky Chart is another free star chart service.
Prior to that time, the term black star was used occasionally. The latter term appears in an early episode of Star Trek, and was still used occasionally after 1967.
