Cambrian period: A geological period 0.6 to 0.5 billion years ago during which life on Earth became diverse and complex. Cambrian rocks contain the oldest easily identifiable fossils.

 


Paleozoic Era (NASA Thesaurus) An era of geologic time, from the end of the Precambrian Period to the beginning of the Mesozoic Era, or about 570 to about 225 million years ago.
