Capella (α Aur / α Aurigae / Alpha Aurigae) is the brightest star in the constellation Auriga and sixth brightest star in the sky.

Capella is a quadruple system consisting of two giants and two dwarves. The A and B components are a close binary consisting of a yellow G5IIIe giant having 7.2 times the diameter of the sun 2.67 times the mass and a yellow G0III giant having 5.

Capella is a multiple star system containing at least 9 stars. This bright system is in the Northern Hemisphere, 45 degrees from (the northern ); it is in the Auriga. The two brightest stars in Capella are a system.

Aurigae
An eclipsing binary with an invisible supergiant companion. The primary is an extremely luminous A8 Ia supergiant of 30 M in a post-main-sequence stage of evolution; the secondary may be a collapsed star or black hole.

Return to Capella; move west three degrees and north seven degrees. This is 7 Cam, a binary (Struve 610) which serves as the giraffe's front foot.

The yellow giant alpha Aur, called Capella, is the 6th brightest star in the sky (0.08 mag). It is also a spectroscopic binary consisting of a G5III and a G0III. They revolve each other every 104 days.

The most rapid visual binary (leaving aside Capella for the moment) is Equulei, which completes a revolution in 5.7 years. Next to it come 13 Ceti, period 7.4 years, and Pegasi, period 11.4 years.

Lastly, the diamond is completed by Capella to the north. The first object we willl view is M35, also known as NGC 2168. This cluster is magnitude 5, and can be found nearly directly in the middle of the triangle we discussed above.

The brightest star in the Auriga constellation is [715] Capella or alpha Aurigae. It is the sixth brightest star in the sky and the third brightest star in the northern hemisphere. The Greeks called it Aix and its Roman name, Capella, means "she-goat.

The brightest star in Auriga is Capella, which is the ancient Greek word for little goat. It is a binary star 42 light years distant and is about 75 times more liminous that the Sun.

Auriga contains the sixth-brightest star in the sky, Capella, a Roman name meaning ‘she-goat' (its Greek name was Aix). Ptolemy described this star as being on the charioteer's left shoulder.

After it leaves the main sequence, Vega is likely to become a yellow giant similar to Capella and Eta2 Hydri before entering the red giant stage, after which it will eventually shed its outer layers to become a white dwarf.

The star Capella (the sixth brightest in the night sky) means "she-goat" and the three stars immediately below it are known as "the kids". Auriga is easily spotted just above the horns of Taurus, the bull.

come from is from the 2nd century AD star catalogue that was written by Ptolemy, a Greek mathematician and astronomer. Almost two thousand years ago he lived in Egypt. A couple of the star names that come from this catalogue are Sirius and Capella.

Together with Eta Aur, they make up the so-called Kids, an asterism which lies just to the south and slightly ahead of Capella (whose name means the "She-Goat").
