19 Contour map of the amount of formaldehyde near the M20 nebula, demonstrating how formaldehyde is especially abundant in the darkest interstellar regions. Other kinds of molecules have been found to be similarly distributed.
Contour Map A map showing the intensity of radiation as a function of position. Each contour line corresponds to a specific intensity of radiation, with inner contours corresponding to higher intensities than outer contours.
The adjacent images are based on these electron density contour maps of the ionosphere for months in the year 1957 to the present. Additional animations may be found in this NOAA directory.
The surface itself was mapped in great detail by the Magellan mission in 1989-94, using a radar altimeter. From that a detailed contour map of the surface was derived(shown on the right, color coded--for a larger version, click here).
If adiabats and isotherms are graphed severally at regular changes of entropy and temperature, respectively (like altitude on a contour map), then as the eye moves towards the axes (towards the south-west), ...
still common, however, when deciding appropriate action. Where objective measurement is desired, light levels can be quantified by field measurement or mathematical modeling, with results typically displayed as an isophote map or light contour map.
