The name Deneb Kaitos derives from the Arabic Al Dhanab al Kaitos al Janubiyy, "The Tail of the Whale Towards the South."
The names Diphda, Difda and Difda al Thani come from the Arabic name Al Difdi` al Thani meaning "The Second Frog." ...

Four named stars define the main figure of Cetus, the Sea Monster, or Whale: Menkar in his head, the great variable Mira in his neck, Deneb Kaitos, which marks his tail, and Baten Kaitos, which links the long neck to the body.

Similar names were given to at least seven different stars, most notably Deneb Kaitos, the brightest star in the constellation Cetus, and Denebola, the second brightest star in Leo.

It lies in the south central part (01:44:04.08-15:56:14.93, ICRS 2000.0) of Constellation Cetus, the Whale -- southwest of Baten Kaitos (Zeta Ceti) and northeast of Deneb Kaitos or Diphida (Beta Ceti).

The brightest star in Cetus is [2478] beta Ceti, also known as Deneb Kaitos ("tail of Cetus") or Diphda ("the second frog"). It is a bright yellowish-orange star 96 light-years away from Earth.

Baten Kaitos (ζ Cet), Deneb Algenubi (η Cet), Deneb Kaitos (Difda, β Cet), Durre Menthor (τ Cet), Kaffaljidhmah (γ Cet), Menkar (α Cet), Mira (ο Cet), Schemali (ι Cet).

Other stars in the constellation include α Ceti (Menkar); β Ceti (Deneb Kaitos), brightest in the constellation; and Ď" Ceti, the 17th closest star to Earth.
