Dschubba

Astronomy Drake EquationDubb

Dschubba may be derived from the Arabic term Al Jabhah, "The Front" (or "The Forehead"). The star is also known as Iclarkrav or Iclarkrau, which may be a modern coinage derived from the Arabic Iklil al 'Akrab meaning "The Crown of the Scorpion." ...

The image will be even more obvious if the chart's lines from Antares (α Sco) to Graffias (β Sco) and Pi Scorpii (π Sco) are replaced with a line from Graffias through Dschubba (δ Sco) to Pi forming a large capped J.

It's just one of many of the Scorpion's bright stars and currently ranks just fifth after Antares (Alpha), Dschubba (Delta), Shaula (Lambda), and Girtab (Theta), consistent with its Greek letter designation.

[7520] delta Scorpii, or Dschubba ("forehead") marks the middle of the scorpion's head. It is also known as Dzuba, Iclarcrau and Iclarkrav. It is a multiple star with a hot class B star for the primary component.

Acrab (β1,2 Sco), Alniyat (σ Sco), Alniyat (τ Sco), Antares (α Sco), Dschubba (δ Sco), Jabbah (ν Sco), Girtab (Sargas, θ Sco), Graffias (β1 Sco), Lesath (υ Sco), Shaula (λ Sco).

Delta Scorpii is called Dschubba, a strange-sounding name that is a corruption of the Arabic word meaning ‘forehead', in reference to its position in the middle of the scorpion's head.
