Dubb

Dubhe's name comes from the Arabic al-dubb, ‘the bear', while Merak comes from the Arabic word al-maraqq meaning ‘the flank' or ‘groin'.

The name Dubhe derives from the Arabic phrase Thahr al Dubb al Akbar meaning "The Back of the Greater Bear".
