Epsilon Virginis is named Vindemiatrix, from the Latin meaning ‘grape-gatherer' or ‘vintager', because its first visible rising before the Sun in August marked the beginning of each year's vintage.
[8775] epsilon Virginis, the third brightest star in the constellation, is a yellow giant, approximately 102 light-years distant. It is also known as Vindemiatrix, or the Grape Gatherer.
It lies in the north central part (17:33:17+09:01.3, ICRS 2000.0) of Constellation Virgo, the Maiden -- south of Vindemiatrix (Epsilon Virginis) and north of Auva (Delta Virginis).
