Errai A is an orange-red star that
is much larger and brighter than
Epsilon Eridani, at left center of
meteor.

 


Edasich (Iota Draconis) is but one of two planet-hosting stars that have proper names, the other Errai (Gamma Cephei). "Edasich" is a corruption of an Arabic term that means "the male hyena.

[2322] gamma Cephei, also known as Errai, Alrai or Er Rai ("shepherd") is a binary star about 45 light-years distant. Its primary component is an orange subgiant star believed to be 6.6 billion years old.

Errai (Gamma Cephei) is a third-magnitude orange subgiant star that will become the Earth's north polar star in 2,000 years. Cepheus is next to the constellations Andromeda and Perseus.
