galactic cannibalism A galaxy merger in which a larger galaxy consumes a smaller one.
galactic center The center of the Milky Way, or any other, galaxy. The point about which the disk of a spiral galaxy rotates.

Galactic Cannibalism
The theory that large galaxies absorb smaller galaxies.

Galactic Cannibalism - The capture and disruption of one galaxy by another
Galactic Disk - A disk of matter, about 30 kiloparsecs (kpc) in diameter and 2 kiloparsecs thick, containing most of the stars and interstellar matter in the Milky Way ...

galactic cannibalism the swallowing up whole of a small galaxy by a large galaxy (usually a large elliptical galaxy at the center of a galaxy cluster).

How important is galactic cannibalism (where a larger galaxy swallows a smaller neighbor) to the evolution of galaxies in clusters?
How old is the universe and will it expand forever or someday contract?

27 This computer-enhanced, false-color composite optical photograph of the galaxy cluster Abell 2199 is thought to show an example of galactic cannibalism.

This is known as Galactic Cannibalism (and is best served with fava beans and a nice chianti).

Similarly, the Andromeda Galaxy is not our nearest galactic neighbor. That distinction goes to the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy, SagDEG, which is currently being devoured by our own galaxy, in a process known as Galactic Cannibalism.
