The easiest way to find them is to form a triangle, using gamma Andromedae and alpha Persei. Then the northern point becomes the twin clusters.
The third brightest star is [5], gamma Andromedae, also known as Alamak or Almach ("the caracal").
Her foot is marked by Gamma Andromedae, whose name is variously spelled Almaak, Almach, or Alamak, from the Arabic al-'anaq, referring to the desert lynx or caracal which the old Arabs visualized here.
