Gamma Ceti (Struve 299) is perhaps the finest binary in Cetus. Some observers find a colour contrast, yellow and blue: 3.5, 7.3; PA 294º, separation 2.8". Nu Ceti: 5.0, 9.5; PA 83º, separation 8".

(Nu Ceti, half-way between Xi-2 and Gamma Ceti, at 4.00 defines fourth.) Each full magnitude division corresponds to a factor in brightness of 2.5. As a typical class K (K1) giant, Psi UMa is physically right in the middle of the pack as well.
Other notable stars are [2482] gamma Ceti, a binary star with an interesting colour contrast to observe, yellow and blue, and Struve 186, a close pair of two equal stars.
