Gamma Cygni

Astronomy Gamma CrucisGamma Del

Gamma Cygni is "Sadr", from Al Sadr al Dajajah, "The Hen's Breast". Between gamma and beta Cygni is the Cygnus Star Cloud, a vast region of exceptional beauty.
Epsilon Cygni is "Gienah", from Al Janah, "The Wing".

SADR (Gamma Cygni). Pronounced more like "sudder" or "sadder," the star itself is nowhere near as obscure as its proper name.

[3068] gamma Cygni or Sadr ("chest") lies at the centre of the Northern Cross and is surrounded by a diffuse nebula, IC I318, also known as the Gamma Cygni region. The star itself is a yellow-white supergiant.

It lies at the southern edge of (20:3:37.4+29:53:48.5, ICRS 2000.0) of Constellation Cygnus, the Swan -- northeast of Albireo (Beta1 Cygni); and south of Sadr (Gamma Cygni), the Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888), and the open star cluster NGC 6871; ...

Albireo (β Cyg / β Cygni / Beta Cygni) is the third brightest star in the constellation Cygnus. Although it has the Bayer designation "beta", it is actually fainter than Gamma Cygni.

The pulsars Taz, Eel, and Rabbit have taken the nicknames of nebulae they are now known to power. The Gamma Cygni pulsar resides within a supernova remnant of the same name. Image: NASA/DOE/Fermi LAT Collaboration.
