Infrared
Infrared radiation is a form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than those at the red-end of the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum but shorter than microwave radiation.

Infrared astronomy
Infrared astronomy is the branch of astronomy and astrophysics which deals with objects visible in infrared (IR) radiation. Visible radiation ranges from 400 nm (blue) to 700 nm (red).

Infrared Astronomy
A wavelength, or frequency, of light that is slightly less energetic than visible light, but more energetic than radio or microwave radiation.

Infrared Radiation:
Beyond the red end of the visible range, but at frequencies higher than those of radar waves and microwaves, is the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum.

InfraRed Astronomy is the study of Astronomical Objects in the InfraRed Spectrum. This is done mostly with satellite based telescopes, such as NICMOS on the HST, since the Earth's Atmosphere Filters IR Radiation.

The Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) was a joint scientific project sponsored by the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Netherlands.

Infrared radiation: the type of radiation that has wavelengths longer than the red end of visible light, but shorter than microwaves, with wavelengths between 1 and 100 micrometers. Infrared radiation is felt in the heat of the sun.

Infrared light Light just beyond the red edge of the visible spectrum is called infrared light. Its photons carry less energy than those of visible light. Our hands are better detectors of IR light than our eyes.

An infrared radiometer is a telescope-based instrument that measures the intensity of infrared (thermal) energy radiated by the targets.

Infrared observatories
The biggest observatory currently in is the brand new Infrared Space Observatory (ISO), launched in November 1995 by the European Space Agency. ISO will operate for at least two years barring unforeseen circumstances.

INFRARED RADIATION
Infrared radiation is electromagnetic radiation that we can feel as heat.

ISO (Infrared Space Observatory), an ESA (European Space Agency) mission, followed IRAS and carried out observations at infra-red wavelengths.

A near-infrared image of the twin planemo system in the constellation of Ophiuchus, obtained with ESO's Very Large Telescope. The two objects are around 400 light years away.

At near-infrared (slightly longer than visible light) the dust is transparent.

Several narrow infrared windows exist at micrometer wavelengths, the photometric designations of which are J (1.25 microns), H (1.6 microns), K (2.2 microns), L (3.6 microns), M (5.0 microns), N (10.2 microns), and Q (21 microns).
