Edasich, or Iota Draconis, is a third magnitude star located around 100 light-years (ly) from Sol. In late 2001, the California Planet Research Team estimated that it is about 98 ly or 30 parsecs away (exoplanets.org).
Edasich (Iota Draconis) (The Planet Project) THE PLANET The upper circle shows the location of the class K2 giant star Iota Draconis, also known as Edasich (in the constellation Draco).
The galaxy is four degrees southwest of iota Draconis. NGC 5907 is in the same region one degree east of M102. This is another edge-on (nearly flat) galaxy with dust lane. NGC 5985 is an inclined spiral, quite faint unless under ideal conditions.
2001, Iota Draconis b: The first planet discovered around the giant star. It is an orange giant. This provides evidence for a survival and behavior of planetary systems around giant stars.
