The Kelvin is a unit of temperature. A change in temperature of 1 degree Kelvin is exactly the same as a change in temperature of 1 degree Celsius (Centigrade). Where Celsius and Kelvin differ is in their zero-points, i.e.

Kelvin Scale
There is a limit to how cold something can be. The Kelvin scale is designed to go to zero at this minimum temperature. At a temperature of Absolute Zero there is no motion and no heat.

The kelvin is the fundamental unit of temperature in the SI system. It is defined as the fraction 1/273.16 of the thermodynamic temperature of the triple point of water.

KELVIN
A scale for measuring temperature where 0 Kelvin is equal to -273.16 degrees Celsius. Zero Kelvin is referred to as absolute zero, the point at which all motion within molecules comes to a stop.

[You may wonder why that collapse is so rapid, considering that Helmholtz and Kelvin--cited at the start of this section--found the gravitational energy of the Sun was sufficient to keep it hot for tens of millions of years.
