Astronomy M61M63

M62 = NGC6266 ( 17h 01.2m -30°07´, 6.6 mag. )
This globular cluster in southern Ophiuchus (just on the border with Scorpius) was discovered by Messier on June 4, 1779. It is approx. 19,500 ly away and measures about 63 ly across.

The constellation Ophiuchus is home to an unusual globular cluster known as M62. This cluster is known for its highly irregular shape.

There are four Messier objects in Scorpius (some authorities put a fifth in the constellation as well: M62, but usually it is listed in Ophiuchus).

Ophiuchus contains several star clusters, such as IC 4665, NGC 6633, M9, M10, M12, M14, M19, M62, and M107, as well as the nebula IC 4603-4604. The unusual galaxy merger remnant NGC 6240 is also in Ophiuchus.
