M88 = NGC4501 ( 12h 32.0m +14°25´, 9.5 mag. )
This beautiful spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices was discovered by Messier on March 18, 1781. It is located 49' W of M91 (see Virgo Cluster Map and the detailed chart below).

M88 (NGC 4501) is a multi-arm spiral galaxy, seen about 30° from edge-on.
M91 (NGC 4548) ...

M88 is a many-armed spiral galaxy some forty million light years away. Quite bright (9.5), it's a favourite with many Messier observers.

One of the brighter members of the Virgo cluster is the spiral galaxy, M88. Located about 60 million light-years from Earth, this galaxy is inclined approximately 30 degrees to our line of sight.
