Astronomy M97M99

M98 = NGC4192 ( 12h 13.8m +14°54´, 10.1 mag. )
This spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices was found by Mechain in 1781 and Messier observed it on April 13 same year. M98 is about 55 million ly away and measures 80,000 ly across.

M98 is a small, dim galaxy located in the constellation of Coma Berenices. It is a member of the Virgo cluster of galaxies, which contains a total of 16 galaxies from the Messier catalog.

M98 is a faint (10.1) spiral seen practically edge-on, lying just half a degree west of 6 Comae.

Next, travel about one degree to the west, and nearly one degree up from the horizon. The eliptical galaxy which lies here is M98. Eliptical galaxies are strange, egg shaped galaxies, and M98 bears a bright central core.
