MEGAPARSEC
A megaparsec (Mpc) is a unit of distance that is equal to one million parsecs, 3.26 x 106 light-years or 3.085678 x1019 kilometers. The Local Group of galaxies is roughly a megaparsec in diameter.

Having an absolute distance means we know the value of d in inches or meters or something - astronomers use a unit called the megaparsec (Mpc), where 1 Mpc = 3.1 x 1022 m.

A distance of one million parsecs (approximately 3,262,000 ly or 2Ã-1019 miles) is commonly denoted by the megaparsec (Mpc). Astronomers typically measure the distances between neighboring galaxies and galaxy clusters in megaparsecs.

parsec
The distance to an object which has a of one arc second. It is equal to 3.26 light years, or 3.1 x 1018 cm (see ). A kiloparsec (kpc) is equal to 1000 parsecs. A megaparsec (Mpc) is equal to a million (106) parsecs.
