MEROPE (23 Tauri). There is little in the sky more attractive than the marvelous cluster of the Seven Sisters, the Pleiades of Taurus, a bright compact, fairly young "open cluster" that is filled with bright stars of blue class B.

The nine brightest stars of the Pleiades are named for the Seven Sisters of Greek mythology: Sterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygete, Celaeno and Alcyone, along with their parents Atlas and Pleione.
Unlike their half-sisters the Hyades, the names of all seven Pleiades are assigned to stars in the cluster: Alcyone, Asterope (also known as Sterope), Celaeno, Electra, Maia, Merope and Taygete.
The colorful light rays in the upper right point to Merope, but they are an artifact of the telescope. However, the parallel features that are reaching for the star, coming out of the nebula, are real, and were previously unknown to exist.

M78 and the Merope nebula in M45 (both reflection nebulae) did not improve at all with the OIII filter as expected, and finally the Rosette nebula was invisible from the city, even with the filter, probably due to the overwhelming light pollution.
