Minute of arc

Astronomy MinuteMira

minute of arc: see arc minute.
month: an interval of time loosely related to one revolution of the moon around the Earth (a 'moonth'). The calendar month derives from the synodic month (full-moon to full-moon) which averages 29.53059 days.

Minute of arc An angular measure (each degree is divided in 60 minutes of arc).

Minute of Arc
A measurement of the sky which includes degrees, minutes and seconds.. There are 60 minutes of arc in one degree.

Minute of Arc - A unit of angular measurement equal to 1/60 of a degree
Mode of Oscillation - A particular pattern of vibration of the Sun
Molecular Cloud - A relatively dense, cool interstellar cloud in which molecules are common ...

minute of arc (arcminute)
Measure of angle. A full circle equals 360 degree. 1 degree equals 60 arcminutes. 1 arcminute equals 60 arcseconds.

minute of arc See "arc minute."
molecular cloud A cold, dense interstellar cloud which contains a high fraction of molecules.

1 minute of arc at hourly intervals; time of sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset; and other astronomical information useful to navigators.

nm (Space Flight Glossary - JPL) Nautical Mile, equal to the distance spanned by one minute of arc in latitude, 1.852 km.

Through a small telescope, Mekbuda appears to have a faint companion a minute of arc away, but it is a line-of-sight accident. The bright star itself, however, does seem to have a true faint companion that cannot be resolved by eye at the telescope.

The longitudinal side-to-side oscillation, on the other hand, has an amplitude of only a quarter of a minute of arc, much too small to be measured by ordinary telescope-based methods.

Each minute of arc is divided into 60 seconds of arc. The ball in the tip of a ballpoint pen viewed from across the length of a football field is about 1 arc second across. The Sun and Moon are both about 0.5 degrees = 30 arc minutes in diameter.

The companion is yellow in color. There is a third component, Alnitak C, almost one minute of arc away from A. This latter star, according to Burnham is probably not physically related to the A and B stars.

The angular resolution of the human eye is about a minute of arc. As car headlights approach from a far-off point, ...

One of the three stars in Orion's belt, and the star along whose line of sight interstellar gas was first spectroscopically detected. [C95]

ocean), one can see about 180 degrees of sky at once, and there are 90 degrees from the true horizon to the zenith. The full moon is about 30' (30 arc minutes) across, or half a degree. There are 60 seconds (denoted 60") of arc in one minute of arc.

The planet Venus will subtend just shy of one minute of arc which is 1/30 the diameter of the sun so it is likely that the transit can be viewed with only a solar filter and not require the use of optics.
