Pegasus, the flying horse:
An ancient constellation who was part of the story of Andromeda and Perseus. It was told that Pegasus was born when the hero Perseus cut off the head of Medusa and some of the blood fell into the sea.

Pegasus is a northern northern sky, named after the winged horse Pegasus in Greek mythology. It was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 1st century astronomer Ptolemy, and remains one of the 88 modern constellations.

Pegasus was the winged horse best known for his association with the Greek hero Bellerophon. The manner of the horse's birth was unusual, to say the least.

Pegasus is marked by "the Great Square of Pegasus", fours stars in the horse's body that form a square whose sides are each over 10° degrees (the width of one fist, held up to the sky) across.

Pegasus was later brought to Mount Helicon by Bellerophon and with one kick of his hoof, he caused the spring of Hippocrene to flow. Hippocrene is said to be the source of inspiration to poets.

The Pegasus with its payload was attached to the belly of a Lockheed 1011 aircraft, which took off from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia and carried the Pegasus rocket to an altitude of about 40,000 feet before releasing it.
