[6921] pi Puppis, the second brightest star in the constellation, lies close to the border with the constellation Canis Major. It is the brightest star in Collinder 135, an open cluster almost a degree in size.
PI PUP (Pi Puppis). Almost seeming to be a part of Canis Major, almost connected to the lower triangle that makes the Greater Dog, Pi Puppis shines at us at bright third magnitude (2.70) from the constellation Puppis, the Stern.
NGC 2477 is a very fine globular cluster three degrees NW of zeta Puppis, nearly half way between pi Puppis and zeta Puppis.
