PLEIADES, ATLANTIDES or Vergiliae, in astronomy, a group of stars situated in the constellation Taurus. They are supposed to be referred to in the Old Testament (Job. ix. 9, xxxviii. 31).

The famed Pleiades, or Seven Sisters star cluster, lies 400 light years away in the constellation Taurus.
Pleiades
The Pleiades also known as M45 or the Seven Sisters, is the name of an open cluster in the constellation of Taurus.
Located in the constellation Taurus, the open star cluster Pleiades (M45) consists of over 500 stars, of which only six are visible to the bare eye, as mentioned earlier in this node.

Pleiades were known since antiquity and featured in (among others) Greek myths. Messier included this nearby open cluster in Taurus in his catalogue anyway - he listed it on March 4, 1769. Located 407 ly away, the group measueres about 30 ly across.

The Pleiades, a cluster of young stars
A is a ball of gas held together by its own . The force of gravity is continually trying to cause the star to collapse. This is counteracted by the pressure of hot gas and/or in the star's interior.
The Pleiades, also known as Messier 45 or the Seven Sisters, are a group of stars that form a young open cluster in Taurus. The Pleiades cluster is composed mostly of hot, blue, extremely luminous stars.
The Pleiades cluster has fasinated people for centeries. It's estimated more photographs have been taken of the Pleiades than any other stellar object. It's common name the seven sisters, expressed the approximate number of visible naked eye stars.
The Pleiades is also known by its Messier catalogue number, M45. Although nicknamed the Seven Sisters (map identifying stars of the Pleiades), M45 is actually formed by over 100 stars.
The Pleiades are, according to Greek mythology, the seven daughters of Atlas, the titan who holds up the sky, and the Oceanid named Pleione. The sisters are Alcyone, Maia, Electra, Taygeta, Celaeno, Merope and Sterope.

Although the Pleiades are popularly termed the Seven Sisters, only six stars are easily visible to the naked eye, and a considerable mythology has grown up to account for the ‘missing' Pleiad.

Towards the end of June, Mars will pass between the Pleiades cluster and Aldebaran. The best line up will be on the morning of June 29, when Mars will be almost the same distance from the cluster, to its left, and Aldebaran to its right.

The first is that earth orbits the Pleiades cluster. This is not the case. The second is that a belt of photons also orbits the cluster.
The stars that make up the cluster are generally supergiants that resemble the Pleiades in miniature.

The Pleiades are a young cluster of stars easily visible in the shoulder of the Taurus (the Bull) constellation during the winter months. They are about 80 million years old (compare that to our Sun which is 4,600 million = 4.6 billion years old!).

Aldebaran means "the Follower" in Arabic (since it seems to follow the stars in the Pleiades. Aldebaran is an giant, old, orange star that is cooler than the Sun; it is under 4,000 Kelvin (the Sun is 5,800 Kelvin).
