Prime meridian: the meridian line defined as the origin for longitudes. Now synonymous with the Greenwich meridian, before 1884 various countries defined their own origin. The early Greeks used Rhodes or Alexandria.

Prime Meridian The polar great semi-circle adopted as the reference direction for measurement of longitude. Earth's prime meridian is the Greenwich meridian.
Prograde The apparent eastward motion of a planet with respect to the stars.

Prime Meridian. The meridian on Earth's surface which passes through Greenwich Observatory. It is taken to be the dividing line between the east and west hemispheres, 0 degrees longitude.

Prime Meridian
The Prime Meridian is the meridian at which longitude is defined to be 0?.

The prime meridian, the starting point measuring the east-west locations of other meridians, marks the site of the old Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England.

Though the prime meridian always divides the Moon down the middle, regardless of the phase, there's nothing like a quarter Moon to illuminate the two hemispheres.

Mars has a prime meridian, defined as passing through the small crater Airy-0. In the future, perhaps Mars could have time zones defined at regular intervals from the prime meridian, as on Earth.

terrestrial longitude Longitude on the earth; the arc of a parallel, or the angle at the pole, between the prime meridian and the meridian of a point on the earth. See coordinate, table VI.

By international agreement, the local time at the prime meridian, which passes through Greenwich, England. Therefore, it is also known as GREENWICH MEAN TIME, or sometimes simply UNIVERSAL TIME. CORONA.

(UT), the international time standard common to every place in the world, it nominally reflects the mean solar time along the earth's prime meridian (renumbered to equate to civil time).

(a) The local mean time of the prime meridian. It is the same as Greenwich mean time, counted from 0 hours beginning at Greenwich mean midnight.

Longitude starts at 0 degrees at the Prime Meridian and goes to 180 degree East or 180 degrees West. Since the Earth is a sphere, 180 E is equal to 180 W.

It also set the "Prime Meridian" which divides the world into East and West at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich.

The other coordinate is called right ascension, and it is measured eastward from a somewhat arbitrary "prime meridian" on the sky. The "prime meridian" passes through the position of the Sun at the time of the vernal equinox.

Mars' equator is defined by its rotation, but the location of its Prime Meridian was specified, as was Earth's (at Greenwich), by choice of an arbitrary point; Mädler and Beer selected a line in 1830 for their first maps of Mars.

Coordinates for general use, where the z-axis is the mean axis of rotation; the x-axis is the intersection of the planetary equator (normal to the z-axis through the center of mass) and an arbitrary prime meridian; ...

Coordinated Universal Time. By international agreement, the local time at the prime meridian, which passes through Greenwich, England. Therefore, it is also known as Greenwich Mean Time, or sometimes simply Universal Time.

RIGHT ASCENSION, in astronomy, that co-ordinate of a heavenly body defined by the angle which the meridian passing through it makes with the prime meridian through the vertical equinox (see Astronomy).

Located at the eastern edge of London, the British capital, the observatory is now a public museum and a brass band stretching across its yard marks the "prime meridian.

The longitude is the number of degrees east or west of the 0° longitude line (the ``prime meridian'' on the Earth) that runs through Greenwich England. On a map or globe, lines of longitude run vertically, perpendicular to the equator.

Measured in Hours, Minutes, and Seconds, it is the arc between the zero point of right ascension (the first point in Aries, just as the zero point for longitude on the Earth is the prime meridian) and the object.

Figure 42 is a modern geologic map of Mars based on Mariner 9 data. (The system of longitude and latitude of all these new maps is based on Mariner 9 data.) The prime meridian on Mars (the Martian equivalent of Greenwich) is defined by a small ...

star known with a predominantly mercury-manganese composition. Along with [1879], beta Cassiopeiae (Caph), and [6281], gamma Pegasi (Algenib), alpha Andromedae is known as one of the "Three Guides," located almost exactly on the prime meridian of the ...

So we must be somewhere on or just west of this12,500 mile-long semi-circular imaginary line (the 12,500 mile-long semi-circle that completes the circle on the other side of the Earth is the Prime Meridian) to first witness the sunrise on January 1.
