Sadr (at center), in a complex region of the Milky Way, is surrounded by reddish interstellar clouds that are excited to glow by the ultraviolet light of hot stars, IC 1318 up and to the right.
Sadr, alternatively Sador or Sadir, derives from the Arabic name for the star Al Sadr al Dajajah, "The Hen's Breast." The name of the star reflects the Arabic idea of the constellation of Cygnus, that is, as a hen rather than a swan.
Gamma Cygni is "Sadr", from Al Sadr al Dajajah, "The Hen's Breast". Between gamma and beta Cygni is the Cygnus Star Cloud, a vast region of exceptional beauty. Epsilon Cygni is "Gienah", from Al Janah, "The Wing".
The star gamma Cyg (the 'breastbone' Sadr) seems to be a binary, too. But it is not an object for low power amateur instruments. The double delta Cyg consists of B9.5 sub giant and a F1 main sequence star.

With it's strange sounding Arabic name, Sadr is one of the brightest, easiest stars to find at this time of year. Shining at magnitude 2.3, it is about as bright as a typical approach of the planet Saturn.
The star in the center of the crossbar is called Sadr. The star at the bottom of the cross is called Albireo. Approximately midway along an imaginary line between Sadr and Albireo lies the star Eta Cygni. Cygnus X-1 is located slightly less than 0.
Alpha Cassiopeiae is called Shedir or Schedar, from the Arabic al-sadr meaning ‘the breast', which position it marks.
[3068] gamma Cygni or Sadr ("chest") lies at the centre of the Northern Cross and is surrounded by a diffuse nebula, IC I318, also known as the Gamma Cygni region. The star itself is a yellow-white supergiant.
