South Atlantic Anomaly
The part of the inner lying closest to the 's surface. It arises primarily because the 's magnetic field is offset from its center.

I would like to know more about the South Atlantic Anomaly. What are its boundaries?

South Atlantic Anomaly
A disturbance in the geomagnetic field (a region of intense charged-particle fluxes) over the south part of the Atlantic Ocean.

South Atlantic Anomaly
the region over the South Atlantic Ocean where the lower Van Allen belt of energetic, electrically charged particles is particularly close to the Earth's surface.

Observations cannot take place when the telescope passes through the South Atlantic Anomaly due to elevated radiation levels, and there are also sizable exclusion zones around the Sun (precluding observations of Mercury), Moon and Earth.

PAMELA discovered an over-density of antiprotons within the 60-750 MeV energy range contained within the South Atlantic Anomaly, but this may only be the tip of the iceberg.

The inner belt, however, has an annoying portion called the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) which extends down into low-earth-orbital altitudes. The SAA can be expected to cause problems with spacecraft that pass through it.

A little bit more data was lost as a result of the spacecraft passing through the South Atlantic Anomaly -- the charged particles there would overwhelm the signals from gamma rays, ...
