NGC3115 - Spindle Galaxy in Sextans(RA 10h 05.2m , Dec. -7° 43', 8.9 mag., 8.1 x 2.8 arcmin.) This is perfect edge-on spiral located 4°50' NNW of l Hydrae (see finder chart below).

NGC 3115 The Spindle Galaxy. This striking object is bright and moderately large in size, about 6'x1' in extent. It has a sharply brighter core and a stellar nucleus. A very pretty object.

NGC 3115, discovered by William Herschel, is so obvious that it even has a special name, the " Spindle Galaxy" (which it shares with others).
